The Cosmopolitan is struggling to find a groove as far as gambling goes, but it’s still the envy of many when it comes to everything else. And by envy we mean the competition is taking notice. For example, plans for the SLS Las Vegas (former Sahara) look like a veritable Cosmo North (including a restaurant, the Bazaar, by José Andrés, and über-hip design by Philippe Starck). And while we’ll never know for sure, you have to believe the success of the Cosmopolitan’s food-and-beverage program played a part in Caesars Entertainment’s decisions to bring Gordon Ramsay to Las Vegas and to launch Nobu not just as a restaurant but also a lifestyle hotel at Caesars Palace. Increasingly, it’s all about everything but gambling on the Strip.
A Peek at Life Is Beautiful 2017
Gorillaz are coming to Las Vegas for the first time ever. 2016’s Grammy winner for best new artist, Chance the Rapper, will return. English rockers Muse will bring their dizzying live show to the streets of Downtown. And that’s just the top of an eclectic bill that features more than 70 acts, along with comedy, interactive art installations, a group art exhibit featuring the work of Mark Ryden, Tara McPherson and Shepard Fairey and much more. Last year saw more than 137,000 attendees trod the festival footprint. Who’s ready for more?
