Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. Good advice in the ’70s, and even better today: The National Safety Council estimates that, nationwide, 24 percent of 1.3 million crashes in 2010 were a result of texting or talking on the phone. Which is why we love the state law that went into effect in January making it illegal to use your cellphone while driving. Now if only drivers would just obey the law … The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported in May that Metro police officers perched at the corner of Tropicana and Rainbow one afternoon pulled over 120 motorists and “90 were cited for talking or texting on their cellphones without a hands-free device.”
