The CEO of Zappos.com and head of the Downtown Project has a lot of plates spinning over Fremont East, including a planned retail/dining complex made from steel shipping containers and a new Zappos corporate headquarters in the old City Hall. But the project we’re most excited about is Eat, a comfort-food restaurant run by former Hard Rock and Paris Las Vegas chef Natalie Young. Now under construction in an apartment building at Seventh Street and Carson Avenue and expected to open in mid-September, Eat will serve breakfast and lunch only, and in so doing will fill two needs: It’ll bring daytime traffic downtown and sate our bottomless craving for fresh beignets. Merci beaucoup, Mr. Hsieh.
A Peek at Life Is Beautiful 2017
Gorillaz are coming to Las Vegas for the first time ever. 2016’s Grammy winner for best new artist, Chance the Rapper, will return. English rockers Muse will bring their dizzying live show to the streets of Downtown. And that’s just the top of an eclectic bill that features more than 70 acts, along with comedy, interactive art installations, a group art exhibit featuring the work of Mark Ryden, Tara McPherson and Shepard Fairey and much more. Last year saw more than 137,000 attendees trod the festival footprint. Who’s ready for more?
