It’s a toss-up between the literate indie-rock of Ryan Pardey’s Halloween Town and the melodic punk frenzy of trio Deadhand. The former deserves to be signed by a label like Merge; the latter needs to be hawked by an outfit like Epitaph. Regardless, when either of these bands plays a club, you should be there, no excuses. Put more simply, Halloween Town and Deadhand will completely mop the floor with the rock ’n’ roll cream of any bigger, snobbier city. The only things these guys are missing at this point? Serious A&R and promotion. Once those pieces of the puzzle fall into place, world domination will commence. Arcade Fire and the Gaslight Anthem better watch their pampered asses.
