Seven Nights

This week in your city.

Thu 26

A few months ago, we learned of a group of people called “Bronies,” i.e. grown-up My Little Pony fanboys. That being said, scene staple Joe “Stasis” Borusiewicz from Frequency Events has an eyebrow-raising number of pastel cartoon horses on his birthday flier. Guess we know what to get him for a present [evil laugh]. DJs Messinian, Teenwolf, Tasha, FMK, Ryan Duff and more spin for the occasion, and $20 gets you unlimited draft beer. (At Diablo’s, 9 p.m., Eduardo Cordova Presents wants you to come play with some balls … bowling balls, that is, for Play Thursdays at Drink & Drag. If you haven’t knocked down pins while a drag queen channels Pat Benatar, you’re missing out! (In Neonopolis, 9 p.m., When you’re done with a few frames, keep the LGBT love going and bar-hop to Beauty Bar for the monthly Feel the Rainbow party at its new home. (517 E. Fremont St., 9 p.m.,

Fri 27

Olympic fever is making a comeback in the U.S., so why not enjoy the games Vegas-style? Stop by Mandarin Oriental to enjoy its poolside Olympic Embassy-themed cabana today until the torch is extinguished Aug. 12. In addition to streaming the 302 events, English-inspired food and drink will give you a little bit of London while you cheer on your favorites. (8 a.m.-8 p.m., EPYK. E-p-y-k …? Ohhh! “Epic.” We get it now. More party promoters are throwing their green Las Vegas visors into the ring as Epyk Entertainment presents a red-carpet themed event. We do love a good costume party. Wear your best “Hollywood Gear” (i.e. favorite celebrity, hated aging socialite wannabe DJ, etc.) and take in the sounds of resident Brett Rubin, plus guests Killsexy, GateWay, Ancona, Brandon Phantom and Dirty Data. (At Artisan, 10 p.m.,

Sat 28

Throw a little Spanish flavor on your Saturday with Chus + Ceballos at Marquee Dayclub. As pioneers of the Iberican Sound, expect some tribal techno and house poolside. (At the Cosmopolitan, 10 a.m., If eye candy is more your thing, Gina Turner brings the NYC house sounds to Liquid. (At Aria, 11 a.m., Time to learn another EDM sub-genre when you wind up the night at XS with Wolfgang Gartner for a “complextro” set, i.e. “complex electro.” We can dig it. (In Encore, 10 p.m.,

Sun 29

Play Hard for the last moments of the weekend as Tao Beach welcomes a special DJ set from Krewella for BPM Sundays. Fresh out of Chicago’s West Loop and supporting the release of their latest EP, expect the EDM trio to be “Killin’ It,” seeing as they have a song by the same name and all. (At the Venetian, 10 a.m., Stepping out from behind their talkbox and retro synthesizers and into the DJ booth, the duo Chromeo returns to Wet Republic for the next installment of their residency. (At MGM Grand, 10 a.m., Nightlife math: If you have 25 friends and can get them to show up at The Bank for the Champagne Showers event (we suggest packing a poncho just in case of rogue bubbly spray), the largest industry group wins $5,000, so they each get $200. We’d even run a comb through our hair and join 49 others for $100 each. Not bad, pending you’re willing to share. If you hoard all the cash for yourself, good luck getting them to show up next time! (In Bellagio, 10:30 p.m., Sunday is the day of rest? No, Sunday is the day for riots! First up at the Civilian Clothing headquarters, you may not want to go full-agro at the Sunday Riots party or you might bump into the glass-blowing demonstration, live music and art or the FukuBurger truck. (6460 Windy Road, Suite A, 7 p.m., Riots of the L.A. variety are also in effect thanks to Daniel LeDisko, a.k.a. LA Riots, as he headlines at XS. Learn more ». (In Encore, 10 p.m.,

Mon 30

As highlighted in the Best of the City awards, our pick for Best Charitable Promotion is the Palms Pool & Bungalows’ Cabanas for a Cause. Party with a purpose for this week’s beneficiary, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas, with every $100 cabana purchased going to a good cause. (At the Palms, 9 a.m.,

Tue 31

Gin-soaked gymnastics, a champagne-bottle relay, or perhaps the drunken high-dive? While we can dream of the inebriated sports we one day hope to see, over at 1 Oak, the 2012 Nightlife Olympics will focus on the feats at which the industry is best skilled: beer pong, chugging beer, flip cup and more. The champion—likely the participant with the strongest liver; our money’s on Vegas Seven’s own Xania Woodman—will take home $5,000. (In The Mirage, 10:30 p.m., Space Invaders: Your leader has touched down in Las Vegas again, keytar in tow. “We. Are. Back.” as French DJ/producer Joachim Garraud returns to Lavo. (In the Palazzo, 11 p.m.,

Wed 1

Flip-cup tournament! That booze-fueled game takes place for Frat Haus at Piranha. With the $10 entry fee you score all-you-can-drink Pabst Blue Ribbon and a chance to win cash, prizes and, of course, glory. Not participating? You can still take advantage of Jäger specials, or the weekly beer-pong tournament. (4633 Paradise Road, 10 p.m.,

DJ Profile

EDX Unmasked

By Deanna Rilling

In his signature black shirt and almost ubiquitous shades (this shot is the only time we’ve ever seen him without them), Maurizio Colella looks the picture of an international DJ chilling poolside before a gig. Under his moniker of EDX (or Enormous Diverse Xample), the Italian producer now based in Switzerland has become a familiar face to the Las Vegas club set through his residency at Marquee, next appearing July 21 at the nightclub. We caught up with EDX to compare music to pizza and to chat about his B-boy history and nerds of the Helvetic variety.
