My philosophy when it comes to losing a bet: I hate when it happens, but when it does, I’d just as soon get my ass kicked than lose in heartbreaking fashion. And boy did I get my ass kicked last night, as the red-hot A’s got drubbed 8-0 by Tampa Bay. Which means I’m now 13-4 with my last 17 selections. Tonight, I’m rolling the dice with the Rangers on the run line (-1 1/2 runs). Several reasons to expect a dominating Texas win tonight. For starters, the Angels have won the first two games of this series — and they haven’t won three in a row since a four-game winning streak from June 24-28. Since that streak, L.A. has lost 14 games, 12 of them by multiple runs. Meanwhile, Texas hasn’t dropped three straight games since a five-game slide to start July, and the Rangers’ last six
victories have been by scores of 4-0, 6-1, 9-2, 9-1, 5-3 and 2-0.
That 9-2 rout came in Anaheim against the Angels. The pitcher for Texas that day? Yu Darvish, who gave up two runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts in seven innings. In three starts this year vs. Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, Mark Trumbo and co., Darvish has yielded just eight runs (seven earned), 12 hits and 10 walks with 25 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings. Texas won two of those contests in blowout fashion (9-2 and 10-3). In fact, the Rangers are 12-7 when Darvish starts this year — and all 12 wins have come by multiple runs.
