Seven Nights

This week in your city.

Thu 23

Deep house music fans were in a tizzy when a scheduled Las Vegas set by the legendary Mark Farina was canceled right before the DJ was about to go on. Rumors flew, with some blaming the bottle-service crowd for not knowing legit house and for demanding something more commercial, while the underground scene was pissed, to say the least. But Farina is back to make amends with a makeup set and free party at Marquee Dayclub. Keith Evan and Julius the Mad Thinker also pull DJ duty. (At the Cosmopolitan, 10 a.m., Bringing together the top bloggers in town, Vegas Voice takes place at the Deuce, where you can enjoy cocktail specials while mixing and mingling with local online experts. (In Aria, 9 p.m.,

Start your weekend by partying with a purpose. Lavo will be hosting the Yelp Helps Very Important Party from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Nonprofit organizations plus local volunteers will be honored for their work. If you’re looking for a way to give back to the community, stop by and learn more about volunteering opportunities, and snag a few complimentary cocktails and small bites. All attendees also receive free entry to La Freak Fridays. RSVP is required at (In the Palazzo,

One of the largest and swankiest fundraisers of the year, Aid for AIDS of Nevada presents its 26th Annual Black & White Party, combining philanthropy with live entertainment including Ruby Summer, DJ Axis and Melody Sweets, gourmet food and libations at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Nirvana Pool. (7:30 p.m., Ever seen a DJ make love to a mixer? Or darn near take out an innocent bystander with a hair flip? Catch a set from Audrey Napoleon and it’s bound to happen. “I dance around like a fucking maniac, and you will get kicked!” Napoleon told Vegas Seven in our May 17 issue. “You might as well take your chances standing behind a donkey.” The L.A.-based DJ/producer spins her brand of what she calls “underground pop” poolside at Encore Beach Club. Give her recently released EP Ornamental Egos a listen to fire you up for the gig. (At Encore, 11 a.m., Dunno about you, but we keep getting Zedd and Zeds Dead confused. The latter is a dubstep duo in whose name we desperately want to put an apostrophe, since it’s supposedly a reference to the film Pulp Fiction. But we digress. Grammar sticklers aside, we dig their new EP The Living Dead (see Aug. 16 CD reviews), and they’ll be at Surrender tonight. (In Encore, 10 p.m.,

It feels like it was only yesterday when “Hot in Herre” was every Las Vegas club DJ’s go-to floor-filler. Heck, maybe that’s because some of ’em still have it in regular rotation. But nothing beats the real thing as the man who wanted us to take off our clothes, Nelly, stops by the Hard Rock Hotel for double duty, first performing for Rehab (10 a.m.,, then hosting at Vanity nightclub. (11 p.m.

This is turning out to be a pretty charitable/philanthropic week in Las Vegas. Next up is Bubbles & Buddhas in the lounge at Tao to kick off Restaurant Week. From 5-8 p.m., 50 percent of all champagne sales will be donated to Three Square Food Bank, and you’ll get complimentary nibbles as well. In addition, the charitable wing of Tao Group, Tao Cares, will feature a year-round pre-fixe menu benefiting Three Square at both Tao and Lavo restaurants, so you can dine and donate at a later date if you can’t make it to this party. (In the Venetian, Ack! Carnies! Oh, wait, we don’t have to worry about that (we hope) at Bare for its Summer Sizzle Carnival Extravaganza. And if there are carnies, we bet they’re really hot chicks. Compete in a variety of poolside carnival games with a grown-up twist for a chance to win cash and prizes while DJ Que provides the tunes. (At The Mirage, 11 a.m.,

Are You Smarter Than a Rockstar? Maybe, maybe not, but you’re probably more sober than a rock star, so that should give you some kind of upper hand. Over at KISS Monster Mini Golf, the rock trivia contest continues every Tuesday until Sept. 25, pitting fans against current and former band members from KISS, Aerosmith, Slaughter, Quiet Riot and more. For this third round, contestants will go head-to-head with Frank Dimino of Angel. Participants can win prizes, including cash and merch. The grand-prize winner earns a three-day experience at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp at the MGM Grand to jam with Gene Simmons and Sebastian Bach. (4503 Paradise Road, 8 p.m.,

XXX Burlesque! Now that we’ve got your attention, a variety of events are taking place at the Oracle Mansion. If you haven’t checked out the venue yet, what better time than now with naked dancing ladies—including an award-winning performance by Shay Lynn—stand-up comedy, live music from The Objex and a bunch of sexy surprises. Call 609-6666 for reservations. (3500 W. Naples Ave., 9 p.m.,

If you can’t get the entire Olympic Village to come to your club, bring the club to the Olympic Village, we always say. No, seriously, we say that all the time. It’s just that usually it doesn’t actually come true. This time, though, Tao Group put together a nightlife spot for American Olympians on Aug. 11 in London’s Roundhouse as the sponsor-approved Club Bud.
