The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada celebrates the grand opening of its state-of-the-art facility, the Robert L. Forbuss Building. Though not technically a holiday, it is a favorite calendar date for sweet-lovers. The 35th annual free cone day at Ben & Jerry’s welcomes the community for a free small scoop (though your donations are gladly accepted) as celebrity guests roll up their sleeves to raise money for St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. Wednesday April 10

Registration for the Senior Idol Talent Showcase auditions is now open for the competition, which takes place June 13 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. Performers ages 50 and older can pick up a registration packet at the Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Rd., and turn it in before 6 p.m. April 26. Auditions are May 8-9.
