Adam Scott’s Masters Win Ignites Rebels Fans

UNLV alum scores first major win for university's golf program

When Adam Scott sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole Sunday to win the Masters over Angel Cabrera, he not only overcame the ghosts of Australia’s tough-luck past on the links, he also exorcised UNLV’s golf demons. Former Rebel Chad Campbell lost the 2009 Masters in a memorable three-way playoff also, ironically, to Cabrera. Scott played for a year at UNLV, in 1999.

His win ignited both the Aussie and UNLV fan bases, from Keith Urban to Gov. Brian Sandoval. Here’s what the fans were saying on social media. You can see the excitement start to build on Saturday, as Scott was in the mix to make a run in the final round.
