Renowned Japanese chef Masaharu Morimoto was said to be tight-lipped about the location of his first Las Vegas restaurant when he was in town for last month’s UNLVino weekend, where he was honored with a Dom Pérignon Award of Excellence. The foodie rumor mill had Morimoto Las Vegas opening in the former Restaurant Charlie space in the Palazzo. But in a statement today, the fate of Japonais in The Mirage was sealed, as that will be cleared to make way for the Iron Chef’s contemporary Japanese and sushi restaurant, slated to open in early 2014.
And Morimoto isn’t the only celebrity chef scheduling a touchdown on the property. Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steakhouse is under construction right now next door in the former Kokomo’s space, and is planned for a July opening.
