Boulder City Named Best for Families

Vintage buildings, cultural festivals, proximity to Lake Mead: When it comes to family-friendly communities, Boulder City is one of the nation’s best-kept secrets—a bit of small-town Americana just 25 miles from Las Vegas’s glitter and glitz.

But now our secret may be out: Family Circle magazine today dubbed the town one of the 10 Best Towns for Families in America.

The magazine ranked towns by factors including affordable housing, green space and crime rates, according to a press release, choosing from among a list of those with populations between 10,000 and 150,000 and high concentrations of upper-middle-class households.

“I think they were correct,” laughed Boulder City Mayor Roger Tobler when told of the honor. (The mayor’s cell phone number is listed on the city’s voicemail, perhaps another sign of the local Norman Rockwell vibe.)

“It’s safe, we’ve got good schools, and a lot of neat recreation,” Tobler added, pointing to the River Mountain Loop Trail, a walking and biking path that connects Boulder City with Henderson and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, as one unique amenity. “The small town atmosphere, I think that’s a big deal.”

Here’s the full list of towns:

Allen, Texas

Boulder City, Nevada

Madison, Alabama

Marion, Iowa

Morton, Illinois

Rio Rancho, New Mexico

Suwanee, Georgia

Troy, Michigan

Upper Arlington, Ohio

West Hartford, Connecticut
