Stamford, Connecticut, may not be as famous a mob town as Las Vegas, but in the 1980s it was every bit as corrupt. Back then the largest drug ring in southern Connecticut operated out of police headquarters, and 15 city or state officials were fired or jailed for their involvement with organized crime. Stamford police officer Vito Colucci wore a wire, and risked his life, to end the corruption, which he details in his new book Rogue Town. Colucci is the guest speaker at the Clark County Library?s Mob Month event. 2 p.m., 1401 E. Flamingo Rd. 507-3458.

Monday, July 8

What makes Downtown lively, viable and interesting? Capture your vision in a photograph and enter it in the Capture Downtown Photo Competition. The contest highlights living, working and playing Downtown, and has categories for both amateur and professional photographers. And there are actual prizes for the winners. Deadline to enter is midnight July 31.

Tuesday, July 9

Summer without a trip to the drive-in theater is like a day without sunshine, which is practically unheard of in these parts. Tuesdays are Family Fun Nights at the West Wind Drive-In, 4150 W. Carey Ave., meaning you get the whole clan in for only $4.75 per head. At that price, it?s hardly even worth shoving Mom in the trunk to sneak her in free.

Wednesday, July 10

Summer is pretty much dreaded here, but it does bring at least one bit of awesomeness: Super Summer Theatre. SST?s July run of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying kicks off tonight at 8:05 at Spring Mountain Ranch. Bring your blanket and enjoy theater under the stars.

Add this to your collection of memorable Las Vegas billboard art: Two stout fingers holding a droopy cigarette—an image made to resemble the chubby legs and cigarette-saddened sex organ of an erectile-dysfunction sufferer. The message? Male smokers are 30 percent more likely to suffer from impotence than nonsmokers. The purveyor of this public-service message, Smoke Free Gaming of America, plans to add even more charm to the Strip’s highbrow collection of images soon by introducing a mascot named Ed B. Limp.
