Fireworks aren’t just for the Fourth anymore. As America celebrates another birthday this Thursday, the celebratory sparks are flying early and ending late. Take your pick of electrifying events and start planning your patriotic partying.
Pass time enjoying America’s pastime as the Las Vegas 51s host the Fresno Grizzlies at Cashman Field. After the game, stay in your seat for an explosive fireworks extravaganza. (850 Las Vegas Blvd., $15-20, begins at 7:05 p.m., LV51.com.)
Is your salute to America incomplete without NASCAR? If so, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the place to be. The annual Night of Fire at the Bullring features $1 hot dogs, $2 Budweiser and, oh, yeah, racing. Check out stock cars, monster trucks and “waterless boat races” before the fireworks crack around 10:20 p.m. (7000 Las Vegas Blvd., $15 entry, begins at 5 p.m., LVMS.com.)
Fireworks don’t start until the sun goes down, but we suggest you start your day early with a pancake breakfast at Bicentennial Park, the kick-off event to Boulder City’s 65th Annual Damboree Celebration. Follow those flapjacks with a flyover by Boulder City Veterans Flying Group, games, and all-day entertainment. Then, finish your Fourth with the fireworks show at Veterans Memorial Park. (Begins at 1100 Colorado St., at 7 a.m., BCNV.org.)
If you prefer to spend the holiday in the City of Henderson, head to Mission Hills Park, where you can snack on concessions and compete in classic picnic games like three-legged races and a water balloon toss. When the fireworks spark at 9 p.m., the Henderson Symphony Orchestra will serenade you with a synchronized performance. (551 E. Mission Hills Dr., free entry, begins at 6 p.m., HendersonLive.com.)
On the Northwest end of the valley, Providence Master-Planned Community hosts the 2nd Annual Stars, Stripes and Sparks celebration at Knickerbocker Park. Bring the family for music by Tony Marques Band and a special appearance by “Providence Dog,” the community’s friendly, furry mascot. Around 9:15 p.m., Pyrotecnico presents a spectacle set to the tune of patriotic songs. (10695 Dorrell Lane, free entry, begins at 6 p.m., ProvidenceLV.com.)
You’ve now reached the final stretch of fireworks! Relax at Lake Las Vegas where you can groove to the jazzy tunes of the Tommy Thompson Project. Cruise the waterfront while you check out a classic car show before the fireworks finale at 9 p.m., (30 Strada Di Villaggio, free entry, begins a 4 p.m., MontelagoVillage.com.)
