By the fifth hour of the Vegas StrEATS Festival few people were still lined up for food trucks, but a growing crowd eagerly awaited The Greater Good. Fresh off their recent release, Goodness Gracious, the duo delivered a strong 30-minute set enhanced by guest spots and go-go dancing. DJ Finyl opened with the horn-infused, heavy beat of the album’s intro track, “Get Up,” before MC Marion Write shot onstage and the crowd’s hands went up without command. Write’s rap delivery was sharp, though his vocals waned singing the hook to “Let’s Ride,” his ode to weed-induced songwriting and recreation. Halfway through “Hometown Visitor” with guests Shyne and Nique, a brief power outage left Write & Co. floundering to finish the track at a face-melting level of bass. A song later on “S.T.M.F.D,” the sound was remedied and Write regained his own powerful stage presence before closing with a freestyle that really did shut the motherfucker down. ★★★✩✩
