Emergency Arts is one of Downtown’s four arts hives. While each is home to good galleries and restaurants, they don’t quite have the energy that Emergency Arts and its most heavily trafficked business, The Beat Coffeehouse, generate on a daily basis. Everything from collaborative art installations to music festivals has been dreamed up by people sitting around tables at The Beat. When you factor in the creative enterprises of Emergency Arts, which include popular galleries (Tasty Space, Get Up Gallery), specialty businesses (Feetish Spa Parlor, Art Street Deli) and things that can’t easily be summarized (usr/lib, the Zine Library), Emergency Arts really begins to look like the center of the Downtown renaissance itself.
