“It really is an urban oasis,” effuses Downtown Cocktail Room owner Michael Cornthwaite of Huntridge Circle Park, which is quite literally situated on Maryland Parkway (just south of Charleston Boulevard; traffic curls around it). The oval-shaped park has come a long way since 2006, when the city closed it down in an attempt to curb violence and drug use. Since reopening in 2011, Huntridge Circle has become home to outdoor movie screenings, neighborhood dog shows and people simply enjoying what it has to offer—namely, three acres of shade trees and green grass, a soon-to-open playground, martini glass-shaped picnic tables and even an earthen labyrinth. An oasis, indeed.
