There are casual Latin dancers, and then there are the true salseros—those who live for the sound of the clave; who chug water, not beer; and who show up late to clubs, skipping the cheesy lesson so they can go straight to the pachanga. Until recently, the latter could be found on Friday nights packed into El Barrio Latino, a cozy, rustic bungalow at the edge of a strip mall on Tropicana. But promoters announced the event’s cancellation earlier this month, dismaying both regulars and our Vegas Seven judges. Luckily, a new weekly party at the Moorish-style Oracle Nightclub is stepping into the dancer-friendly, non-pickup-driven void. Like El Barrio, the venue offers hookah service and atmosphere, but with a live band thrown into the mix. We’re also fans of the giant, mirrored dressing room outside the women’s restroom, complete with red leather chairs and mysterious jewelry drawers, where you can primp like a showgirl before hitting the dance floor in style.
