Alabama Shakes Added to Life Is Beautiful

alabamashakes.jpgAlabama Shakes–which is not, as we’d assumed, a condition brought on by drinking underaged ‘shine for a week straight–are joining Life is Beautiful in October, according to Billboard.

This does dramatically increase the slide-guitar percentage in the festival by a factor of 10, basically throwing down a bluesy gauntlet directly at Beck’s feet. Maybe this is the time he finally stops dicking around and breaks out the washboard robot. The roots-rockers, who were just at The Pearl July 19, aren’t alone: Also added to the bill are Cults, Joey Bada$$, Smith Westerns, Nico Vega, The Dig and Dreamers, Wildcat! Wildcat!, Chancellor Warhol, the Kingston Springs, Children of the Night and Tink.

They may not have invented the genre that spawned a generation of moody, Doc Martin–clad dreamers, but Bauhaus have definitely earned a prominent niche on the cold, hard walls of the goth cathedral. Without notice or dark makeup, a detached Peter Murphy emerged onto the stage, chanting the indiscernible lyrics to "King Volcano." Although the other original members of Bauhaus were not there to join him—calling it quits in 2008 after their final tour for the critically praised studio album Go Away White—Murphy's chilling vocals cloaked the room in a fog of bittersweet nostalgia.
