Fiction or Non? That is No Question

StayUpWithMe hc c.JPGTom Barbash likes to go both ways … fiction and nonfiction. And at 7:30 p.m. October 3, the best-selling author will give a free lecture entitled The Journalist as Fiction Writer at UNLV’s Barrick Museum auditorium. He will discuss his journalistic past and read from his just-released short-story collection Stay Up With Me (Ecco, $16), which is worth checking out even if you can’t make it to the event. Or if you prefer words that are true, read Barbash’s 2003 book On Top of the World: Cantor Fitzgerald, Howard Lutnick, & 9/11: A Story of Loss & Renewal. In a literary world full of difficult choices (Barnes & Noble or Amazon, paper or e-book, classic or contemporary), it’s nice to not have to decide on at least one thing.

I’m only mentioning Depeche Mode’s sold-out October 6 concert at The Pearl ($160-$220) because it’s such a big deal, and because a few of those premium-priced tickets might shake loose on the day of the show.
