UNLV Mental Health Clinic Serves Community, Too

UNLV was one of only 30 universities recently honored by The Jed Foundation, a national nonprofit for college-student wellness, for the high quality of its campus mental health services. The unique twist is that those services not only include a comprehensive slate of student programs, but also offer help to the Southern Nevada community at large. Here are the broad strokes:

1. The Practice is a mental health clinic staffed by UNLV faculty and advanced graduate students in clinical and school psychology and counseling. It focuses on helping children, teens and adults who are struggling with parenting, problem gambling, school anxiety and other issues.

2. Like The Practice, the Center for Individual, Couple and Family Counseling is faculty- and student-staffed. Affiliated with the university’s psychology department and marriage and family therapy program, it offers counseling for problems such as anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties.

3. Both facilities are open to the public, charge sliding-scale fees and attempt to accommodate anyone in need. In addition to individual appointments, specialty clinics are available.
