A Salute to Professor Green

Michael Green is not only Vegas Seven’s award-winning politics columnist, he’s also a distinguished author and Nevada historian who trained at Columbia under the legendary academic Eric Foner. Now Green, a professor at the College of Southern Nevada, has another honor that would make his old mentor proud: The American Historical Association awarded Green its 2013 Eugene Asher Distinguished Teaching Award.

“The scale, range and innovation of [Green’s] teaching are extraordinary,” Asher Prize committee member Tim Keirn said in the history association’s release.

Green carries a heavy load at CSN, often teaching 150 students a semester; he also teaches seminars at UNLV’s Honors College. And he’s always got multiple projects brewing as a teacher, historian and public intellectual. Green is the first to admit that when he’s asked to offer his writing and wisdom, he’s not the best at saying “no.” We’re glad he continues to say “yes” to Vegas Seven and its readers.
