Britney Spears’ two-year residency Britney: Piece of Me won’t open until December 27, but she had her grand arrival at Planet Hollywood on Tuesday. Hundreds of fans (hell, maybe it was over a thousand—they’re hard to count) waited for more than an hour in front of the resort just to catch a glimpse of her.

Shortly before the announced 4:30 p.m. arrival time, cast members from the show entertained the crowd with a pretty impressive dance routine. There were well over a dozen of them, including a snake charmer, a fire breather, a stilt walker, acrobats and plenty of scantily clad dancers. (This did beg the question of what Britney’s going to be doing in the show—but I’m sure they’ll find a use for her.)

When the performance ended, traffic was stopped on Las Vegas Boulevard to make way for the eight black SUVs in Brit’s motorcade. She emerged from one in a tight black dress with sequined top, and I have to admit she looked a lot better than she did at that big September helicopter event in the desert. Of course, this one didn’t take place at 4 a.m., and she presumably hadn’t gotten airsick just before it started, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

The singer was also extremely gracious. As she moved through the crowd of fans in front of the red carpet, she stopped to sign some autographs. As she walked the carpet, she made sure to stop so everyone in the media could snap some pictures. She was not, however, terribly talkative. After being greeted by a casino executive, and presented with flowers, she spoke for less than 10 seconds about how she was excited to be in Las Vegas, and how she was looking forward to opening night. But that was apparently enough for her fans, who ate up every syllable.

If you’re interested in hearing how she sounds in person, the last I checked, tickets were still available for all of her first five shows except New Year’s Eve.
