NAUGHTY & NICE: Not a lot of bands tour during the Christmas holidays, but local favorites Sin City Sinners have a special Christmas in Vegas, Holiday Extravaganza show at Vinyl on December 21. The concert is free but all attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to benefit Toys for Tots and the Marine Corps. The band has already raised more than $150,000 for local charities, and a portion of the proceeds from their recent A Sinners Christmas 2 album has also been earmarked for Toys for Tots. The way I see it, you have plenty of time to embarrass yourself at your office Christmas party and redeem yourself later. Donate a gift, enjoy the show and bring some holiday cheer to local children.
STYX TIX: The jig is up, the news is out: Styx is at Pearl Concert Theater on January 19 ($50-$80) so how ’bout we say “domo arigato” for not playing “Mr. Roboto” and raise our lighters for classics such as “Renegade,” “Come Sail Away” and “Blue Collar Man?” And when the band launches into “Lady,” don’t be embarrassed for smiling and giving Styx all of your love.
ON SALE NOW: For the longest time, I thought Haim was some kind of Corey Haim tribute band or a Zooey Deschanel side project (She & Haim?), but a 19-year-old co-worker took pity and let me know Haim is actually three sisters (Este, Danielle and Alana Haim) and a mister (Dash Hutton) from Los Angeles who make music that is a little folky, a little poppy, a little rhythm & bluesy. Their debut album, Days Are Gone, dropped in September and recently popped up on several “Best of 2013” lists. You can dive into Haim when they play the Boulevard Pool at the Cosmopolitan on April 17 ($20).
