“We are taking Rock ’n Roll Wine to the high seas,” explains Chris Hammond. It has been a dream for Hammond and his business partner Sonny Barton to host a wine-tasting ocean cruise since their company’s early days, tooling around Lake Las Vegas on a tub called the La Contessa. Thanks to a loyal following, they’re finally getting their sea legs. The Rock ’n Roll Wine Cruise to the Mexican Riviera sets sail from San Diego on March 23 aboard Holland America Lines’ boutique cruise liner, Ms Veendam, porting in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta before returning March 30. At-sea days will feature wine tastings, including the Bon Voyage tasting in the crow’s nest, a Reserve Tasting, the Wine Amplified Grand Tasting in the ship’s showroom and a gourmet pairing luncheon. The winery partners and bands have not been set in stone, but as wine and music form the bedrock upon which Rock ’n Roll Wine is established, there will assuredly be a stellar lineup of both. Prices for inside cabins begin at $1,049 per person, with balcony suites going for $2,799 per person; prices increase $50 per person after January 7. Not to be confused with a romantic couples-only cruise, Barton says, “This cruise is dedicated to all of our die-hard supporters. Rock ’n Roll Wine Cruise’s environment can be enjoyed as a getaway with friends, a celebration, but overall as a one-of-a-kind wine experience.”
