After studying an ancient text, Harvard professor of divinity Karen King drew some conclusions that challenge our traditional understanding of the life of Jesus. Leonardo da Vinci was a pretty smart guy, but to really understand how far ahead of his time he was you have to see his creations for yourself. That’s hard to do unless you get out to Springs Preserve between now and May 4 for the Leonardo da Vinci, Machines in Motion exhibit, where you’ll find faithful re-creations of his ideas, which included everything from a machine gun to a robot. The world of film expands far beyond the latest Hollywood releases, though sometimes you’d never know it. That’s where the Cinema Society of Las Vegas comes in with its Inaugural Half Season, which starts tonight with the restaurant documentary Spinning Plates. There’s quite a bit of homegrown artistic talent over at UNLV’s MFA program. Example: Shelbi Schroeder and her Indefinite Obsession exhibit, through Feb. 1 at UNLV’s Grant Hall Gallery. Through her photography, Schroeder explores the connection between the mind and the body, ultimately examining how people feel about their physical appearance. UNLV.edu.
