This month in Vegas Seven’s skiing and winter sports guide: LVSSR makes up for its paucity of snow with slope-side burgers and brews, Aspen combines two of our favorite things—skiing and cocktails—and Utah’s Brian Head shows off its new makeover.
Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort
The sun shone brightly January 11 as LVSSR’s new rooftop bar was christened with the breaking of a bottle of Jack Daniel’s. After a few good runs, guests can now (carefully) climb the spiral staircase up to Chair 4 and relax slope-side in deep Adirondack loungers and chairs up-cycled from an old bunny slope lift while enjoying burgers (try the Yeti, with whiskey-glazed bacon, mushrooms and Swiss; $14) and $6 craft beers (Happy Camper IPA, please). And on Sundays, Chair 4 rolls out the Bloody Mary Bar! Now, if only it would snow… – Xania Woodman
Aspen Cocktail Classic
If Aspen and Snowmass are on your to-do list this winter, the time to go is March 13-16, when the second annual Après Ski Cocktail Classic (ApresSkiCC.com) takes up residence at the Westin Snowmass Resort. After first tracks, get your fill of mountain-top parties, spirit and cocktail seminars, fireside chats, a Grand Tasting Village and the Great Après-ski Pub Crawl with Steve Olson, Charlotte Voisey, Jonathan Pogash, Kim Haasarud and other luminaries of libation. Tickets start at $150 and a limited number of VIP all-access passes are $375. – X.W.
Brian Head resort, which at 9,600 feet boasts the highest base elevation in Utah, just opened a third terrain park this season, adding 20 rails and jumps to the resort’s 650 acres. Also added were a new tubing hill and inflated bag jumps—open Saturday-Sunday, optimal for testing fresh tricks. Speaking of trying new things, in honor of Learn to Ski and Snowboard month, the resort is offering two-hour lessons with lift ticket and equipment rental for $45. Already know the ropes of the slopes? You can take advantage of $25 Tuesday pricing or night skiing Thursday-Saturday ($15-$20.) Afterwards, chill out at one of the resort’s two lodges, which underwent a combined $3.5 million renovation last year. – Camille Cannon
