ACHIEVEMENTS: She was the first female president of a major resort on the Las Vegas Strip. Previously, she was president of Primm Valley Casino Resorts, then Excalibur, then Mandalay Bay and THEHotel. Now she leads both Excalibur and Luxor.

THE NEW VEGAS TOURISM: “Las Vegas is such a scrappy city,” West says. “In the future we’re going to look back and see this as a big-change era, but it’s just taking shape. I think we increasingly will become a destination where people spend discretionary dollars, not just gaming dollars.” Her challenge is to keep the iconic MGM Resorts properties relevant during this era.

HER TALENT: West’s mentor, Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, says the key to West’s longevity in the industry is her ability to make both guests and employees happy. “She invests her energy in creating an inclusive work environment and embodies our core values of teamwork, integrity and excellence.”

MOTIVATION: “I love people and I love seeing people challenge themselves. I’m good at creating an environment where they can do that well. I hold people capable—not just accountable, but capable.”

STAT: Between Luxor and Excalibur, West oversees 8,381 guest rooms.

THE FAST TRACK: She has a need for speed. West has recently taken up race-car driving. Yep. She owns a Porsche and races her Miata in a club on twisty tracks near Primm. “I placed fourth in my first race,” she says.
