Who: Kimberlee Hyp
What: Figure Skater and Philanthropist
My style is … timeless, feminine and figure flattering. My natural state of being is in a ball gown. I’d wear one at all times if I could get away with it!
I skated competitively … for many years as a child. I decided to return for fun and exercise about four years ago, and after a short time found that I couldn’t resist the temptation to compete. Thanks to hard work and the help of my incredible coach David Nickel, I’m the current national champion in my age and skill level.
I was drawn to … figure skating by, of all things, the outfits. Despite some of the unfortunate costumes you see from time to time, I’ve been influenced by the traditional ballet style—elegant, clean, flowing. The costumes I use in competitions today are often cocktail dresses or gowns that—with the help of my fabulous seamstress Romina—I’ve turned into skating dresses.
There are so many … wonderful and worthy charitable organizations in Las Vegas: Three Square, Nathan Adelson Hospice, Nevada Ballet and Communities in Schools, to name just a few. I support as many causes as I can in an attempt to both connect with the community and to make it a better place.
