This Week’s Most-Wanted Events: Caffeine and Canvas, Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves opens for Lady Antebellum on March 21

Get Happy at Grouchy John’s

Indulge your inner Monet and your proclivity for caffeinated beverages at the same time: Local artist Tommy Vinci leads a two-hour Caffeine and Canvas class at one of the Valley’s best coffee shops, Grouchy John’s, on March 20. The $32.50 admission includes all the supplies you’ll need. And did we mention coffee? 8520 S. Maryland Pkwy.

Follow the Signs

At first glance, James Stanford’s Indra’s Jewels exhibit appears to come from the tail end of a kaleidoscope. Then you read the fine print and realize the “jewels” you see are schematized signage, which Stanford shot on site at the Neon Museum. The display pays homage to our illuminated treasures at Trifecta Gallery through March 28.

Go for the Girl

Country trio Lady Antebellum headlines Mandalay Bay Events Center with Kip Moore on March 21, but our eyes and ears are on the undercard, Kacey Musgraves. The 25-year-old is Nashville’s rising star, drawing comparisons to a young Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton for her honest lyrics and charm. She’ll soon join pop queen Katy Perry on select dates of her 46-city Prismatic tour, too, but sadly, not when the tour goes through Las Vegas.

Modern Company

If you find yourself near West 55th Street and Ninth Avenue in New York City, you can take a class from world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Otherwise, head to The Smith Center on March 22-23 and simply watch the bodies in motion. The New York Times praised them as “sleek, athletic masters of the universe.”
