Baseball season is upon us. Since Las Vegas is a city without a national baseball team, which teams do our locals root for? Thanks to Facebook and the New York Times, now we know. Facebook compiled data taken from individuals’ “likes” on their personal pages and produced a data visualization of certain teams’ spheres of influence. Times staffers cross-referenced that data by ZIP code and came up with the map below.
Compared to other states, Nevada is not as dense with die-hard baseball fans. However, the San Francisco Giants have the biggest following in the north, near Reno. In Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the dominant team with 18 percent popularity. The Yankees and Red Sox follow.
