There will be an additional incentive this year for Las Vegans to attend Tales of the Cocktail, the nation’s premier spirits and cocktail event, in New Orleans July 16-20. After years of politely clapping and sipping from the sidelines while our bartending brethren from Chicago, San Francisco and New York sop up the accolades, Las Vegas will finally get its chance to shine at Las Vegas Invades Tales of the Cocktail (5-8 p.m., July 17, Masquerade Nightclub, Harrah’s), a collaboration between Las Vegas’ Back Bar USA and Tales. The ultimate Las Vegas cocktail showcase will benefit from the talents of Aria’s Craig Schoettler, Herbs & Rye owner Nectaly Mendoza, the Cosmopolitan’s Mariena Mercer, Bellagio’s Ricardo Murcia, Southern Wine & Spirits’ Francesco Lafranconi, Wirtz Beverage Nevada’s Andrew Pollard and the Modern Mixologist, Tony Abou-Ganim. Says Back Bar USA’s Tim Haughinberry, “This is our chance to highlight the best of the best and prove our position to industry leaders who are underexposed to the city’s top-quality offerings.” One ticket please!

Gorillaz are coming to Las Vegas for the first time ever. 2016’s Grammy winner for best new artist, Chance the Rapper, will return. English rockers Muse will bring their dizzying live show to the streets of Downtown. And that’s just the top of an eclectic bill that features more than 70 acts, along with comedy, interactive art installations, a group art exhibit featuring the work of Mark Ryden, Tara McPherson and Shepard Fairey and much more. Last year saw more than 137,000 attendees trod the festival footprint. Who’s ready for more?
