Huntington Press recently released the third edition of Cathy Scott’s encyclopedic book, The Killing of Tupac Shakur. The local journalist and author offers a comprehensive analysis of the rapper’s death, including a detailed account of his murder and its investigation as well as chapters exploring the role of violence in gangsta rap and hip-hop culture. The revised edition includes a new chapter on former Death Row Records bodyguard Frank “Big Frank” Alexander, who was in the car behind Shakur at the time he was shot. Scott had information from Alexander that she was only able to release after his death in April 2013. This is a must-read for any fan looking for a broad historical account of the legendary rapper’s tragic demise.
