It’s time to get ARTrageous! The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada, better known as The Center, is back with its annual fundraiser on June 14. This year’s theme is “Artists in Wonderland,” and The Center’s Downtown space will be transformed into an Alice in Wonderland fantasyland.
The highlight of the event is the curated art. Hektor Esparza, youth resource specialist at The Center, is helping make the selections, alongside City of Las Vegas Arts Commissioner Brian “Paco” Alvarez. Local heavy hitters such as Cameron Grant and 3 Baaad Sheep are sharing works in the juried show, as will high school students from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. “When we have a community together to share each other’s art, there really aren’t boundaries between ethnicities, socioeconomics, gender, identity or sexual orientation,” Esparza says.
ARTrageous was on hiatus last year after The Center relocated to a bigger building. For its fourth installment, The Center hopes to build on the $25,000 raised previously. Its Bronze Café is providing a Mad Hatter tea party menu, and there will be music, fashion shows and live entertainment. Proceeds directly benefit The Center, whose mission is to support the LGBTQ community, its allies and low- to moderate-income residents in Southern Nevada.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. 21 and up. Event is from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. in The Center, 401 S. Maryland Pkwy., 702.733.9800; artrageousvegas.org
