Day one of this year’s Wine Amplified Music & Wine Tasting Festival was headlined by pop/rock royalty Train. After five hours of patrons enjoying warm-up acts and wine-guzzling, the band was not naïve to the idea that the crowd was probably sauced by the time they hit the stage at 10:30 p.m. Lead singer Pat Monahan asked a very obvious question when he sarcastically screamed out, “Is everybody nice and drunk?” which was returned with an overwhelming “Yes!” “I’m Drinking Tonight,” off of the band’s most recent album, Bulletproof Picasso, seemed appropriate after the brief banter with the crowd. “Angel in Blue Jeans” and “Cadillac, Cadillac” followed, with the latter highlighted by an amazing guitar solo from Jimmy Stafford on lead axe. “Hey, Soul Sister” and “If It’s Love” energized the crowd before “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” and a cover of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” capped off a satisfying night of music and Merlot. ★★★★✩
