Dressed in all-black with matching cowboy boots, frontman Adam Lazzara appeared as a punk rock version of Johnny Cash. His recent run-in with the law—Lazzara was arrested for a DWI on February 15 while he was home in Charlotte, North Carolina—added to the effect. The pop punker delivered a superb performance. Swinging his microphone like a lasso, Lazzara herded his fans like cattle during “What’s It Feel Like To Be a Ghost” and “You’re So Last Summer.” And he square danced to “El Paso.” The band ended the set with the rambunctious “It Takes More,” and Lazzara thanked the crowd. “It’s always a real treat playing Las Vegas,” he said with a Southern twang. “You guys tired us out.”

The band’s encore threw the audience into a time machine. After a brief acoustic performance of “Call Me in the Morning,” Lazzara traded his acoustic guitar for a taped-up microphone and the band performed its hits: “Cute Without the ‘E’ (Cut From the Team)” and “MakeDamnSure.” Fans formed mosh pits, crowd surfed and sang along to their high school anthems. ★★★★✩
