Rapper/producer IamSu! a.k.a. Sudan Ameer Williams displayed the charisma and enthusiasm of a sports team mascot during his show at Hard Rock Live. The 25-year-old Richmond, California native paraded through dance-floor slappers “I Love My Squad” and “T.W.D.Y.” in his first proper Vegas gig. Williams fiercely rapped the majority of his set over instrumentals with no backing vocals, and he seamlessly switched between singing and rapping in “Hipster Girls.” Showing hometown pride, he paid homage to legendary Bay Area rappers E-40, Mac Dre and Too $hort—giving them shout outs and even covering their songs while standing on monitors and handing the the microphone off to fans.

Things got rowdy during his verse in E-40’s “Function” when a massive brawl broke out between audience members. IamSu! played peacekeeper, saying, “We can’t ‘Function’ if we’re like this!” The rapper ended his 27-song set with “Only That Real,” reminding fans that his hometown pride is genuine. ★★★✩✩
