On Memorial Day weekend, thousands are expected to flock to the Valley for Matinée Las Vegas Festival. The biggest gay dance festival of the summer will celebrate its fifth year in Las Vegas, and it’s bound to be the wildest (and wettest) one yet.
The festival encompasses eight events over four days and nights, with the main event being held at Cowabunga Bay in Henderson. It’ll be the first time the festival holds an event at a water park in its tenure here. “The water park party in Barcelona has always been the biggest party of [sister event] Circuit Festival,” Matinée USA partner Paul Nicholls says. “When we had the opportunity to bring the event to the newest water park in the country, we jumped on it.” New Jersey house DJ Hector Fonseca will spin at the main event, and he’ll be accompanied by Matinée Spain all-star DJ Taito Tikaro.
So what’s in store for this year? The festival has partnered with Absolut vodka to create some jaw-dropping moments—so many that Nicholls wants to keep them a surprise. He did reveal one thing, however: “We will have things like the 360-degree photo/movie booth as seen on red carpet events,” Nicholls says. “We’re also working with PIXMOB, the same technology that lit up Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show.”
As for the other three nights, they’re scheduled to take place at Share Nightclub, Vanity, Rain and Rumor Pool, with DJs Grind, Kitty Glitter, Josh Whitaker and Tango Vibe running the decks. With so many events spread throughout the city, this festival’s bound to be a rager.
