Basin and Range, running through September 5 at UNLV’s Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery, showcases works inspired by Southern Nevada’s Great Basin—its beauty as well as the environmental issues the area faces—and artist Michael Heizer’s Double Negative/The City “earthworks.” The exhibition includes two- and three-dimensional works and interactive media. During the openining reception, local musicians performed while a representative for Sen. Harry Reid presented letters of commendation to the participating artists for supporting Reid’s efforts to declare the Basin and Range area federally protected land.
