Calling all language lovers and adjective admirers! Venture to the West Las Vegas Arts Center Community Gallery at 7:30 p.m. July 17 for the Poets’ Corner. Join host Keith Brantley as well as other emerging local poets as they recite and rhyme in the longest-running open-mic event in Las Vegas.

If you’re a fan of funk, hip-hop or jazz, hit Brooklyn Bowl and see New Orleans’ Stooges Brass Band at 8 p.m. July 19-20. The band takes the best elements of the aforementioned genres and combines them in a rich, musical gumbo. Admission is free, so you can boogie down at no cost.

Does the name Anjelah Johnson ring a bell? You probably know her as King Burger employee Bon Qui Qui on MadTv. The 33-year-old actress and comedian recorded an entire album as the character, and she’ll hit House of Blues at 8 p.m. July 19 to bring the outrageous tunes and comedy to life.

Flight of the Navigator, the imaginative 1986 Walt Disney comedy, screens at Inspire Theater at 7 p.m. July 22. Let this sci-fi delight (and a cocktail) push you over that Wednesday hump, but beware of ravines hidden in plain sight—you might just end up communicating with extraterrestrials.
