GoldBoot Unleashes ‘Wild Feelings,’ Almost Normal Reimagines Bon Iver

I know. I’ve been slippin’ on this column. There’s been a ton of great music flooding my inbox (keep it coming!), so to make up for the lag, here’s a double-dose of Vegas music. In this edition: Almost Normal takes on Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love,” GoldBoot drops the video for buoyant single “Wild Feelings,” Rob Falco embraces the darkness and more.

Almost Normal – Skinny Love (Bon Iver cover) [Free Download]

Named the Best Live Music Act in our 2015 Best of the City, the multi-talented tag-team of Almost Normal debuted their cover of folk hero Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” last month during their show at Triple B. The crowd was instantly mesmerized by the airy synth-pop makeover and singer Ashley Lampman’s chilling vocals. Like the duo’s cover of Eiffel 65’s “Blue,” their take on “Skinny Love” is not an imitation but an almost unrecognizable re-imagining. And thankfully, they just released it online so you can download it and take it with you. Dig it? You can catch a live rendition when they play Triple B again—for free—August 5.

GoldBoot – “Wild Feelings” [Video]

The aformentioned June Triple B show was also the release party for GoldBoot’s Black White Gold. It was my first time seeing the dance-pop duo live. Clearly, I’d been sleeping, and “Wild Feelings” was the alarm. The song is just so damn bouncy with its flourish of horns, synths, groovy bass and guitar. It’s one of those songs you hear and think, “Why isn’t this on the radio?” Listen to the song and watch the stunning video below.

T.R@bb – Bang Yo Hood [Free Download]

Inspired by classic inner-city drama Boyz N the Hood, Northtown rapper T.R@bb unleashes the riotous “Bang Yo Hood.” As the title suggests, the self-produced track bangs—so much that R@bb warns: This not for factory decks, you need Kenwood for this. Crank the volume up until your trunk rattles, roll the windows down and ride out to this one.

Punks In Vegas – PIV (Compilation) [Free Download] drops this four-song collection in honor of their all-acoustic four-year anniversary bash at Alternate Reality Comics this Saturday (details here). The short compilation features Philly folk punk band Steady Hands, along with locals Eliza Battle, No Red Alice and Brock Frabbiele. Stream it below.

Rob Falco – Dabble in Darkness EP [Free Download]

Rapper Rob Falco gets sinister on his newest EP. Not that his previous project, What Matters, was sunshine and balloons but Dabble in Darkness explores heavier, more ominous production and features a more animated delivery from the emcee. Don’t be misled though, the six-track EP isn’t violent or grim, but a delving into Falco’s pysche. I’ve been in the fog, can you help me out? / I’ve been feeling lost, can you get me found? he raps on “Alzheimer’s.”

New Wave Dave – “New Beginnings” [Video]

I’m at a loss for words with this one, so I’ll just leave it here …
