Downtown Spaces’ Spectral Gallery celebrates one year of operation at 6 p.m.  Aug. 7 with live painting, refreshments, a raffle and swag. Additionally, “sexploration” boutique Toyboxx LV will host an open mic and reading of vintage erotica. Leave the kids at home for this outing, folks. SpectralArtGallery.com.

The controversy surrounding the death of author Jackie Boor’s great-grandfather is so compelling, she wrote a book about it. In Logan: The Honorable Life and Scandalous Death of a Western Lawman, she expounds on the 1906 murder and trial for Nye County Sheriff Tom Logan.  Boor will sign copies at the Writer’s Block 7 p.m. Aug. 7. You have until Aug. 7 to check out Pennsylvanian artist Benedict Oddi’s Scouts and Nomads at the CSN Fine Arts Gallery. The series of paintings and drawings explores conflict and struggle in a dystopic world—sort of like an illustrated version of 1984. Sites.CSN.edu/ArtGallery.
