Details have been announced for this year’s Grills & Guitars, the traditional culinary kickoff for the Life Is Beautiful festival. While the event—a mini food and music festival unto itself—has been held Downtown the past two years, Life Is Beautiful organizers have opted to hit the Strip on September 24, when 15 chefs will do their grilling at Foxtail Pool Club at the SLS.
Festival organizers promise “a one-of-a-kind experience filled with delectable grilled nosh, exotic cocktails, and chilled beers.” Providing that nosh this year will be Akira Back (Yellowtail/Kumi), Brandon Konishi (Katsuya), Dalton Wilson (DW Bistro), Danny Elmaleh (Cleo), David Thomas (Bazaar Meat), Doug Bell (Pot Liquor), Hubert Keller (Fleur by Hubert Keller), Jerry Misa (Mochiko Chicken), Josh Smith (Bardot Brasserie), Kim Canteenwalla (Andiron), Nicole Brisson (Carnevino), Ricardo Romo (Itsy Bitsy Ramen & Whisky), Sam Marvin (Echo & Rig), Susan Feniger (Border Grill) and Terry Lynch (StripBurger).
While there’s no word on menu items quite yet, I’m told the chefs will all continue the grilling theme that’s permeated the past events, and has led to quite a few whole animals being devoured in their entirety. And, as in the past, expect to see the chefs mingling and drinking with their fans. So bring a camera to preserve those moments.
Of course, grills alone do not create this particular event. The rock band Spoon will provide the guitar element, apropos of everything this night of chowing down and rocking out is about.
Tickets for the party, which are independent of festival passes, are $150. That includes all the food, beverage and entertainment you can handle. You can purchase them at the door, if the shindig hasn’t sold-out by then. Or you can pick them up online beginning at 10 a.m. August 27 at LifeIsBeautiful.com/Grills-Guitars.
