Illness and voice loss couldn’t prevent rock god Lenny Kravitz from making it to the Chelsea stage, though it did make him a bit tardy. Kravitz apologized to the packed house, and declared that the numbers on a wristwatch are largely irrelevant: “Time don’t mean shit,” he said. Then he launched into a series of funky hits that don’t seem 20 years old. Backed by his 10-piece band, Kravitz slayed “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over,” “Always on the Run” and “Let Love Rule,” though some of the songs lost traction with the crowd due to prolonged instrumental solos that wore out their welcomes. Still, Kravitz managed to close the set brilliantly with passionate renditions of “Fly Away” and “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” If you were patient enough not to look at your watch, they proved well worth the wait. ★★★✩✩
