You’ve probably found something at Goodwill that was on-trend and runway ready, but only the nonprofit itself could task seven local designers with repurposing the most unique items from its collective of donations for the second annual Blue Party on October 2. The event, taking place at the World Market Center, is not all in the name of fashion: last year, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped more than 2,300 people find work in the community. Ninety percent of this year’s proceeds will go towards continuing that mission.
The crowning moment of the evening is the runway show hosted by FOX5’s Maria Silva and Dave Hall. Aldo Mencatto, a designer from Brazil and former vice president of the Las Vegas Fashion Design Council, is the mentor for the designers and will oversee the celebrity models on the runway.
Mitch Adkinson, one of the founding members of the LVFDC who has previously shown his work at the World Market Center, gave FOX5 a behind the scenes look at his design earlier this month, but we still haven’t seen the final product. The show will also feature fellow founding member of LVFDC Austin Mulvenon, along with designers Martha Aispuro, Drennan Oscar Graham, Rheme Ragasa, Emily Stanley and Sharon St. Laurent.
The Blue Party will treat guests to food and cocktails, live painting with artists from Jana’s RedRoom, a silent auction, and performances from Dave Perrico Pop Strings Orchestra, Frankie Scinta and DJ Wendi Cakes. And yes, you are encouraged to wear blue to the gala.
General admission tickets start at $35 and if you’re feeling generous, tables are still available for you and three friends. Either way, a wristband will get you into the after party at Tao Nightclub.
