Rocker Rob Zombie delivered an upbeat and high-energy performance to town the night before Halloween. Surrounded by images of classic monster movie icons King Kong, Frankenstein and the Wolfman, Zombie and his band brought the eager crowd along on a festive romp through his haunted collection of hits from his days with White Zombie and from his solo career.
Zombie engaged the audience through call-and-response, plenty of stage banter and an abounding spirit that was anything but doom and gloom. He gave solo time to drummer Ginger Fish (who donned a Hilary Clinton mask for his spotlight on the skins) and guitarist Johnny 5. Bassist Piggy D maintained the thumping rhythm throughout songs like “More Human Than Human,” “Never Gonna Stop” and a cover of Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band.” Zombie is fun to watch on any night, but this show was big on treats without any tricks. ★★★★✩
