“I grew up around a whole tribe of whip-smart, independent thinkers. My mom and her core group of girlfriends have always been a positive influence in my life. They have all worked, both for themselves and other people, in fashion, philanthropy, politics and business. There has never been a doubt in my mind that I could do anything I fancied if I worked hard enough.
I founded Pilates by Jessica in 2013, and I run my practice from home. I offer privates and duets. I was BASI [Body Arts and Science International] certified, and in keeping with that ideology, I like to stick to a mix of the fundamentals, performed with accuracy and precision, and some fun modifications that I’ve picked up along the way.
I’m recently divorced with young children, and working from home affords me the ability to work flexible hours, and to be available for school pick-ups, field trips, homework, dinner and all of the other parental minutiae. My life with little ones is so chaotic; I really needed something that would give me the flexibility to put their needs first. Working for someone else would make it too difficult. I had a casita with a private entrance at home, which really facilitated this dream I had to teach independently.
I’ve been amazed and shocked about how just through word of mouth I’ve been able to generate a wonderfully loyal and committed clientele. ~ Jessica Bello
My clients have the same flexibility to make last-minute booking changes, or to bring kids to class. It really provides a great opportunity to develop a strong personal relationship, which is something unique to my type of practice and sets me apart from bigger studios. I worried initially about how I would generate business without the aid of a big, well-known storefront, but I’ve been amazed and shocked about how just through word of mouth I’ve been able to generate a wonderfully loyal and committed clientele.”
