Blues, Brews & BBQ, Mining Camp for the Kids and More

This week in your city.

Thursday 9

For those who dream of traveling to Italy but can’t quite swing it, here’s the next best thing:
Discovering Italy, A Cultural Perspective, 6 p.m. at the Clark County Library’s Sahara West branch. Discussions on fashion, culture, music and more are on the agenda. Stupendo!

Friday 10

We want you to be well. Therefore, we direct your attention to the fifth annual Health, Healing & Happiness Conference, 5 p.m. today through Sunday at the Tuscany Hotel. You’ll find experts on nutrition, spirituality, personal development, even a vegan singles mixer. Namaste.

Saturday 11

If there’s a party in town that features blues and beer, you know we’re on it. Throw in barbecue and you’ve got the 13th annual Blues, Brews & BBQ, 4 p.m. at the Cannery Casino. Five hot bands, a dozen cold microbrews, more food than you can fit on a plate, what’s not to love?

Sunday 12

Life isn’t all yoga and beer, you know. Sometimes you have to throw a little culture into the mix. Opera Las Vegas’ Carmen, 2 p.m. at UNLV’s Bayley Theatre, should do nicely. The cast is headlined by stars from the Metropolitan Opera, with some talented locals in the mix.

Monday 13

If you gotta face another week, might as well have a little fun at the outset. The Las Vegas 51s are hosting the Reno Aces for a four-game home stand beginning today, 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field.

Tuesday 14

You are a Nevadan, therefore your kids should know something about mining. If they don’t, ship them off to Springs Preserve’s Mining Camp this summer, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily in June. They’ll learn how to dig for gems, minerals and fossils, and take home what they find.

Wednesday 15

Hump day is turning into dancing day, which is fine with us. We’ll be over at the Charleston Heights Arts Center for Ethnic Express International Folk Dancing, 6:30 p.m. Each week they focus on a different style. You might learn Arabic dancing, you might learn Turkish dancing, or anything in
