North Las Vegas’ ongoing Movies in the Pool series will keep you both cool and entertained. This evening’s feature is Finding Nemo, a particularly appropriate film to view while submerged. 7 p.m. at the Silver Mesa Pool.

Celebrate all things local at the 2016 Neighborhood Awards, 7 p.m. at Mandalay Bay. The show crowns winners in 12 categories including best high school, religious organizations, community leaders and businesses.

Sunday 24

Huntridge Through the Decades: A Close-up of the Iconic People’s Theater, through Aug. 31 at the Nevada State Museum Las Vegas, is a chance to see for yourself why the place is worth saving. The display includes everything from the original seats, dating to the 1940s, to posters depicting the building’s turn as an alt-rock venue.

OK, it may actually be too hot to hike right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan your fall outings and learn how to do them safely. Hiking guru Branch Whitney is back at the Sahara West Library, 6:30 p.m., to give you the skinny on the best places to go.

Listen up, muscleheads: The NPC USA Bodybuilding Championships are in town, today and Saturday at UNLV’s Ham Hall. The event features men’s and women’s bodybuilding and physique classes. Judging starts at noon.

We suggest you park yourself at Cashman Center, 7:05 p.m., for the first game of a four-game home stand as the Las Vegas 51s host the El Paso Chihuahuas. The first 2,500 fans through the gates score a sweet Steven Matz jersey.

Two local authors and two artists will take the stage for Painted Stories, Duel in the Library, 2 p.m. at the Clark County Library. Each author will read his/her work, and the artists will paint what they hear. The audience asks questions afterward and decides which they like best.
