With Life is Beautiful right around the corner, get into the spirit of inspiration and innovation with the Zappos for Good Speaker Series. In partnership with The Smith Center, the first event will take place at 5:30 p.m. August 31 featuring Dr. Brené Brown and singer Jewel. All profits go to Three Square, Project Clean Water and Charity: water. Tickets are $29 to $99.

This night of incredible women kicks off with Brown, whose TED Talk, The Power of Vulnerability, has been viewed more than 25 million times. She has spent the past 14 years studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy and is the author of three No. 1 New York Times best-sellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly and Rising Strong. Brown is also the founder and CEO of COURAGEworks, an online learning platform with courses that aim to develop brave leaders and cultures of courage.

Matthew Rolston 1Jewel founded Project Clean Water in 1997 to provide clean water on a global scale—3.4 million people die per year without access to this valuable resource. The organization has helped 40 communities overcome individual drinking water problems in 15 different countries, on five continents.

In 2009, Project Clean Water formed the Give a Drop partnership with Voss Foundation and Virgin Unite to support water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Give a Drop’s most recent project was the construction of a solar-powered water system and sanitation infrastructure at the Good Future and Hope Primary School in Nakisunga, Uganda. Overall, it has funded 26 water access points and four sanitation facilities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Mali and Uganda.

Jewel’s memoir Never Broken will soon be released in paperback along with an accompanying website offering a three-step formula to living emotionally free.
