There simply is no other performer like Paul Anka. The iconic singer-songwriter showed a packed house exactly why that is September 16, during an electrifying performance at The Smith Center that lasted over an hour and a half.
Backed by a 16-piece band, the 75-year-old performed with the energy of someone half his age, as he took the audience through six decades of songs and the stories behind them. He employed short video presentations and spent a good deal of the show down in the aisles with the audience. Anka transformed the enormous Reynolds Hall into an intimate venue, reminiscent of a classic Vegas showroom experience.
In addition to his own career, Anka paid tribute to his many friends, collaborators and peers. Audience members were treated to his rendition of songs from Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly and Prince, and a highlight of the evening was a duet he performed with a video recording of Sammy Davis Jr.
